Rik Bruineman - Drums
rik

Name:
Rik Bruineman

Birthday:
18th of March 1974

Hobbies:

Music, (playing drums / guitar etc.) power kiting, swimming, sailing, reading. Other than that
I tend to spend a lot of my spare time taking care of my son and playing drums or taking care of my son (is there a pattern here?)

Vices:
I’ve got way to little time for way to many hobbies ;)

Musical background:
I started playing drums and guitar at age 14. I focused in on drums and Learnt to play guitar, bass guitar and a bit piano. I listened to almost all genres of music and play most of them. After playing in high school/garage bands I started to take things more seriously and started my own project (Elemental Journey, still ongoing) and was the drummer for Aerodrome, Silent Edge, Synergy Protocol and Galanor. Influenced by my mother’s classical music and my father’s love for more contemporary music I found that prog and rock were the main styles I like to express myself in but I don’t limit myself to just those styles in playing. I’m a self taught drummer with a love for combining jazz, metal, funk, Latin and Japanese styles.

Equipment:
- Pearl SPX drums
- Remo Rototoms
- Custom made octobans
- Sabian Cymbals
- Ufip Hi-hats
- my own signature drumsticks provided by Balbex (thanks to Patsticks.nl)
- Axis longboard pedals (thanks to Dick Visser music sales and Karen @ Axis Percussion)
- Pearl hardware
- Roland V-drums
- various percussion instruments
- Remo drumheads

Idols in music:
I wouldn’t call them idols however I do have a huge respect for people like:
Gene Harris -
Marjan Welman -
Nikka Costa -
Russel Allen -
Arjen A. Lucassen -
Carter Burwell -
Neal Morse -
Gackt and many more

Idols in life:
I respect and value everyone in return for their respect and worth. Having an idol would mean I have someone to look up to. I’d rather see eye to eye and simply learn from others while teaching others what they can learn from me. There’s not a person in particular I can name as an idol accept for my son, he is my hero and I am his

One almost always fitting is: Take a music bath once or twice a week for a few seasons. You will find it is to the soul what a water bath is to the body”. (Oliver Wendell Holmes)
